Thinking of...

Shot on December 29th, 2011, Ruffano

Today I was taking some pics of my nephew and I liked this one in particular because it seems as if he would think about something sad, the expression of his face is quite interesting. Managing to capture those moments is what I like most! I also tried shooting in the child mode, one of the auto modes, because it's useful to know the behaviour of the different auto modes which doesn't mean you have to use them. I'd rather prefer the pro modes as you gain more control over the images. So, try them all but I'm sure you'll end up using the pro modes and the manual focus!

Raindrops

Shot on December 18th, 2011, Ruffano
ISO 400 - 1/25 sec. - f/5.6 - 200 mm lens
It was raining the other day and I don't really like taking pics under the rain so I decided to take them from my balcony. There's that gazebo in my garden and I loved how the raindrops looked as if they were sticked to the wood even though it was raining quite a lot. This is a close-up of the gazebo's roof and I wanted to put the attention on just a few rows of wood and raindrops instead of focusing the whole roof.

Behind the clouds

Shot on December 14th, 2011, Ruffano
I was looking out of the window this evening and I saw a particular sunset. The sun was hiding behind the clouds relfecting a bright red light. I took immediately my cam to take some pics. I started to take pictures not only with the jpeg format but also with the RAW one. You're able to modify every aspect of your images but you need a high capacity memory card if you want to shoot also with this format as RAWs can actually reach up to 20 MB depending on your cam and your configurations.
This pic was shot with the Shutter Release Mode with ISO 100, 2sec, f/29, 135mm lens.
You're able to modify the RAW with Photoshop, Nikon NX2 or any other photo-editing program. Be sure you got the right plug-in for your cam with PS, usually all camera types are supported but if you got a new one and you can't open the RAW with PS, just download the plugin from Adobe's website!
Don't forget to check all your settings when shooting in the "Pro-Modes" i.e. the White-Balance and the ISO settings! I'll try to give more details on that in my next posts!

Once upon a time...

I know I promised a short explanation for every pic but I'm quite busy these days. I took the IELTS test this morning and I'm working on my dissertation, so please forgive me, I'll do my best to write some lines where there's no text for now. I uploaded the last pictures all at once so that my blog didn't look so empty, you know, starting a blog whith just two photos isn't that much of a photography website!
"Every photograph has a story to tell." and that is what I'm going to do!

Piazza S.Oronzo

Shot on May 13th, 2011, Lecce
I like taking pics while the sun sets, because you get this particular light thanks to the so called "blue hours" i. e. when the sky is still bright even though the sun is setting.
That's one of the most famous spots in Lecce, "Piazza S.Oronzo". The statue of this saint is placed on the obelisk and under it there's actually an amphitheatre (I will upload some pics soon, so you get an idea of how beautiful this square is).
I like to remember this day because I went to shot some pics whith my Spanish friend Jose and in the evening we listened to a concert in the streets near the square, I had an amazing time! It's thanks to him if I was able to get find the passion for photography again! On this day though, a very special person was missing: Pame, she was in Spain so she couldn't come whith us. Jose and Pame are two friends of mine, they were in erasmus in Lecce this year and I really found two special friends, friends I didn't find in ten years being in Italy. Oh, here's the link to their blog, visit it, they are amazing photographers:

Prickly Pear

Shot on April 4th, 2010, Lecce
I will upload some pics that I took in Lecce starting with this one. Lecce is the city where I went to university. I shot this one while I was having a walk with a dear friend of mine, Marta. I actually asked her to go with me because I didn't want to walk around alone as it was one of the first times that I shot photos with my Nikon so I needed someone to feel comfortable! :) I don't like to take a pic without details, and when I found this composition I just had to freeze it whith my cam!

Compass Rose

Shot on November 13th, 2011, Ruffano
I am reading "Nikon D3000 From Snapshots to Great Shots" by Jeff Revell as I want to improve my skills. It actually covers everything you need to know about photography and I'm really into it! By the way, I'm not going to specify the camera I'm using as it's a Nikon D3000 and it'll be the same for every other pic. So, I was reading the book and I came to the chapter about the so called "Pro Modes". After trying a bit the Programm Mode, I focused on the Aperture Priority Mode and the Shutter Release mode. This pic was shot on the roof of my house in Italy. I was experimenting these modes and I actually got some nice pics, including with this one, even though I had to get rid of the others as they were blurry... I know, I have to get a tripod as soon as possible! :)
